The IT world runs on Internet Protocol (IP); voice communications follow the same trend. Voice over IP (VoIP) has seen rapid growth globally and South Africa is also experiencing acceleration particularly with the recent regulatory pressure on interconnect rates. The high cost of national and international travel has put pressure on organisations to adopt a creative approach to communications.

A switch to VoIP is motivated by three main considerations: cost, operational efficiency and increased value added services. Videoconferencing and information sharing have become vitally important because of the productivity gains they offer. Converting face-to-face meetings into video conferences with document sharing makes people more productive and reduces travel time and costs.
